Greensboro, N.C. – The Guilford County Board of Education voted to name the new visual and performing arts elementary school Peeler-Hampton Visual and Performing Arts Elementary School.

The new facility sits atop a legacy of learning. Positioned on Randall Road, it occupies the site of the former Peeler Open Elementary, which was destroyed by a tornado in 2018.

It’s named after Rev. Silas Peeler and Dr. William M. Hampton. Rev. Peeler served as the president of Bennett Seminary — which is now Bennett College — from 1905-1913. Dr. Hampton was a physician, a Greensboro Board of Education member and the first Black person elected to the Greensboro City Council.

Peeler-Hampton Visual and Performing Arts Elementary School is located at 2200 Randall Road in Greensboro and is set to open this fall.
